Intra-corporate Transfers (ICT)

Globalisation of business, increasing trade and the growth of multinational groups has increased the posting of managers, specialists and trainee employees of multinationals, temporarily relocated to other units of the company.

If you work for a company established outside the European Union (EU) and you are going to be transferred to a branch in Italy, you might fulfill the conditions of admission are governed by the EU Directive on intra-corporate transfer (Articles 3 and 5 of Directive 2014/66/EU)
  • In order to request the authorisation for the worker’s transfer, you will have to provide the following information:
  • - Duration of the transfer, position of the transferee, salary and other work conditions of the transferee;

    - Identity detail;

    - In the case of a trainee, the training plan.

    Documentation supporting the request must be submitted to the designated services at the Prefecture at the latest ten days after the request is lodged.

    The period of validity of the ICT permit is of at least one year or the duration of the transfer (whichever is shorter), and may be extended to a maximum of 3 years for managers and specialists and 1 year for trainee employees.
    After this period, the transferee will need to leave the Member State territory for 3 months before being able to apply for a new ICT permit.
